In today's fast-paced society, Katinka Kuipers (Utrecht, NL) uses humor as a means to address important topics that resonate through her generation. For example, she delves into the impact of social media on mental well-being and responds to the poor prospects of climate change and the housing affordability crisis. Kuipers seeks to highlight the complexities of finding happiness within our society and aims to stimulate dialogue surrounding societal taboos and the often (unspoken) expectations that shape the lives of her generation.
With her swift and spontaneous approach to drawing and writing, Kuipers captures the essence of the constant influx of information we encounter everyday. Nevertheless, her artistic creations are anything but burdensome; in fact, they often evoke laughter. By skillfully utilizing humor, Kuipers adeptly establishes a connection with her audience, making her work relatable and thereby easily accessible. The very format of her works, including the use of stickers and posters, serves to anchor her message directly into the realm of society itself, reinforcing the link between her art and the subject matter at hand.
